The steps of your Adoption Homestudy Journey

1. Introduction

Email Amy to schedule a free 20 minute phone or video call. This call will help you and Amy get to know each other and will give you a good idea of what to expect during the homestudy and adoption process. There is no obligation or fee for this introductory call.

2. Get started on your homestudy documents and pay your deposit

To start, create a Google Drive and share with Amy. This establishes a secure repository for transfer and storage of application materials, required documentation, and reports.

A non-refundable deposit of one half of your fee is due before our first meeting. You do not have to pay the balance until all parts of the homestudy are completed and it is time to write your report.

3. Schedule your first home visit

Once you’ve completed your application and paid your deposit, it’s time to schedule your first interview!

All meetings will take place in your home. and the first meeting should include all household members. Evening and weekend appointments are available. Amy will also tour your home and provide feedback about any changes that are necessary to create a safe environment for a child.
You can expect to have a minimum of three interviews with Amy in your home, which will be scheduled as you are completing your paperwork.

4. Gather necessary documents and obtain state and national clearances

Amy will send you a list of necessary tasks and required documents, including detailed instructions on how to obtain your FBI and state background checks, and an Abuse/Neglect Registry Check for each person in the home over the age of 18.

5. Time to complete the report

Once all of the required components are complete and the final payment has been received, Amy will complete your full written homestudy. You will have to opportunity to review the homestudy for accuracy and will be given a copy of the final report for your records.

Amy will provide your agency/attorney with documents requested to facilitate your placement. She is available to consult with you free of charge about next steps, possible matches, and other questions that you may have — that’s why I’m here!

6. Post Placement Supervision

And now the best part: visiting with you and your new baby! Once you bring your baby home, you will likely be required to have at least one postplacement supervision visit. Depending on the specifics of your adoption, multiple post placement visits and reports may be required. Amy works closely with your agency/attorney to ensure post-placement supervision requirements are met.
